There are different units for sizing metal and non-metallic pipes and fittings. For example polyethylene pipe and fittings units are per millimeter and metal fittings such as flanges and valves units are per inches.

The units are known differently in different countries. For example in Iran No2 Pipe means a pipe with a diameter in 20 millimeters.
